impromptu date
Tonight I was supposed to go to a bingo birthday party at Tortilla Flats. It’s a traditon, we’ve gone for five years and our table has never won. This, our sixth year anniversary was going to be our year. But babyblogger had a virus and I needed to be home. I felt bad but once I got home I was glad to deal with his horrendous diaper rash, running nose and upset tummy myself. And after I put babyblogger to bed preschool blogger and I got to hang out. Fatherblogger is away on business (and if this storm keeps up I’m afraid he’ll never get home) so I let him stay up late and we just played for a bit. He has a new game: jump, skip, rhyme where you basically run around like a bird so we did that for a while. And we ate a bunch of orange things: goldfish, orange juice and an orange. We found out doggyblogger likes goldfish too. And we watched the lightening from his room and he told me he wasn’t scared. I was sorry to miss my friends, but the way I’ve been working lately—coming home at 7pm, and rushing them into bed because I have more work to do, makes me feel distant. I hate mothering remotely, but I do it from my desk all the time. And tonight, we just got to be together, alone and talk instead of hurrying someplace to get on with the day. So even if they won for the first time ever, got the round of shots and the much coveted Tortilla Flats Bingo Winner tee shirt , I’m still glad I spent the evening with preschoolblogger.

I can’t believe you passed on the Flats.
José Cuervo is crying somewhere.
Well, I guess you’ve decided to run for MoTY.
