Unfun fundraising
Maybe it was the warm, Magnolia-scented June air that made me feel generous. Or maybe I was still nursing my aimlessness, but at the last PTA meeting of the school year, I volunteered to be Fundraising chair for preschoolblogger’s (soon to be a kindergartenerblogger) school. It was the one position that wasn’t filled, (a telling sign I didn’t pick up on) so I offered my help on the condition I’d have a co-chair. A new friend volunteered and the next thing I knew we were smiling side-by-side with the rest of the executive committee for snapshot for the school newspaper.
How bad could it be, I thought, really? Last year, a good friend was the fundraising chair alone and she was a little too negative about her PTA involvement— especially when she was trying to recruit. I remember thinking, “She’s kind of a Debbie Downer, why is she even on the PTA if its making her so miserable?” Well, nanny-foo-foo on me because now, I’m blind-sided and overwhelmed by my role. Here are the broad stroke tasks on my to do list through the rest of the year:
Kick off Fall wrapping paper sale: convince principal to be wrapped up in a wrapping paper to get the kids psyched to SELL!
Send out “Direct Appeal” fundraising letter to all parents in school asking for donations
Collect and process all orders for wrapping paper sale
Help plan school wide picture-day
Throw Halloween Carnival
Plan Election Day Bake Sale
Distribute all orders from wrapping paper sale
Organize holiday bazaar
Have nervous breakdown
Never write another blog entry again
Find the money to send kids to private school so I can quit the PTA and pretend that because I’m a paying for my kids education I don’t have to be so involved.
