My brother and I struggle with our mom's inability to give good gifts. It's like the opposite of your mom. Gift-giving time is when we are most aware of how out of sync with us she can be. Gifts sure can be tough. But when they hit big it's such a treat. I felt so great when LJ told me the book I picked out for Santa was "the best book ever".
