We received the letter from my sister in law - who ASKED before she sent the letters to everyone if they wanted to participate. I then ASKED my friends whether I could send them the letter. I agree with it kind of sucking if you really don't want to participate, but I think when you're going to be doing something on behalf of your kids, as long as the parents ask first before they get sent along, there's nothing wrong with it. The letter probably shouldn't say anything about the kids receiving 36 packs, because there's no way that will happen, but if they even get one pack of stickers, that's still fun mail to get in this age where very few people send letters anymore.

And I agree with the person who said that it's pretty unlikely that you're going to get a psycho coming after your kid because their address is on a chain letter.

I'm kinda jealous. I hinted around - why didn't I just say it? that I wanted "The Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Deaths" but didn't receive a copy for Christmas. I even wrote two blog posts on it and talked obsessively about my own little creepy dollhouse project. But apparently my husband doesn't read my blog. I did, however, receive a pasta strainer. So that's something.

It's just... seriously? It's a ponzi scheme, a pyramid scheme! If it were an actual sticker club, with all participants ending up with relatively equal in fun and participation (given differences in temperment and responsibility), then great! I'd love to send stickers to people we don't know! Sounds cool! And maybe, but only MAYBE, even get some! It's impossible, IMPOSSIBLE, for this "club" to end up with even *most* children getting something fun in the mail, though, other than a chain letter... which, ehch.

I completely participated in sticker club. I had my child although only 3 be completely involved he picked the stickers we discussed who they were for ((another little boy who would be so happy to be getting his letter (a picture he colored) and the stickers)) and put them in the envelope and walked to the mailbox together to mail them. I talked about how postage worked as we walked (down the road). I never mentioned him getting anything back. Not only because I wasn't sure that he would but because that part shouldn't matter as much as doing something nice for someone else. See what a lot of you other mothers missed... that sent out some stickers to person 1 and moved on with your life, is that this was supposed to be about your kids and other kids. And it's fine for you to choose to not send out the letter... but did you make it an experience for you kids anyway. Or did you choose to ignore their involvement or did you choose to teach them it's better not to participate since it's likely you won't get anything back??

@floreska it BREAKS my heart that your 6 yr old daughter would think "why would I want to send stickers to someone I don't know" My answer would have been.. to make their day! It's a kid asking for stickers not a grown person asking for hundreds of dollars. I hope your child didn't go trick or treating and accept candy from lots of people she doesn't know. I find that MUCH more dangerous.

I participated, my child participated and we both had a good time. We had no expectations and more importantly we had no cynicism. It's harmless. Sometimes you just need to get over yourself and stop making everything so serious.

@Renee - Haha! Totally! Trust me folks, it's a lot easier for these non existent sticker club stalker perverts to just go down the street and stalk little kids.. they don't have to drive to different cities to find them just cause they have your kids address.

Chain letter YES, Ponzi Scheme POSSIBLY, or Club NO!!! This has caused me so much stress being that I know how I felt when I read it and I just don't want to make another mom feel that way. I would rather be carving pumpkins or roasting marsh mellows or collecting fall leaves or sending a letter to a soldier but instead I must find 6 names and send it in 6 days before the mail runs at 6 o'clock, get my point pure hell!!! I don't recall signing my child up. And schools should send parents a letter letting them know that this has started yet again. This is not a good thing although it comes off as cute and harmless. If nothing else the post office has seen a pick up in mail delivery!!! I mailed the letter but I put sticker club in the from: so that parents would know up front that this was not just a cute letter from a neighborhood child but a ploy to have you wondering and possibly feeling guilty. What would happen if the chain is broken? from here on out if a letter comes to my child and I was not notified prior by email then it will be RETURNED TO SENDER!!!
